Happenings: Fire Times Five (or more)

UPDATE: http://www.santa-clarita.com/news/fire.asp is the City's site for coverage of what has become a very dangerous fire in northern Santa Clarita. Details on school cancellations, evacuations, and firefighting efforts can be found there.

This has been a thoroughly Elemental October: it’s rained twice, the wind is blowing furiously, and now all of LA County is on fire--almost. Here are some pictures of nature’s handiwork near San Fernando Road.

This ominous stream of smoke is coming from the fire in Agua Dulce. The LA Times covers the half dozen or more fires burning in the Southland here.

Is this scary or what? I really thought we were out of the danger zone with things cooling off and even raining like it did for a little while.

In California you're never out of danger. Fires happen more in summer and early fall but the state is fair game all year.

That tree limb you showed falling isn't the worst of it. The worst wind damage comes from spreading fire and the weather site says we have high winds thru tomorrow afternoon. Lots of people needing our prayers and help.

Hello,

Do you know if Lombardi's Ranch burned? I heard rumors it did but I sure hope not.

It doesn't help our precarious situation when we have idiots who decide to weld in dry grass during a Red Flag Warning period either aka The Magic Fire.

I don't know what the penalties are for starting a fire by violating the warning but I hope the fire dept. gets to drag them behind their truck.
